Annie's Early California Enchilada and Veggie Fajitas
Friday night we wanted to go out, and all we really wanted was some Mexican food and drinks without going very far. With such simple criteria there was only one place to go: El Cholo on Western. This is one of the oldest Mexican restaurants in LA, and they have a couple of great choices for vegetarians. Being veggies and semi-regulars, we already knew what we wanted when we got there: Annie's Early California Enchilada and Fresh Vegetables Fajitas. Both plates are so good we just have to share, so the decision of where to put which dish is soley the waiter's. The enchilada is one of the best vegetarian enchiladas either of us has ever had - it's packed full of perfectly cooked garden veggies, and topped with a very tasty, un-enchilada-ish white cheese sauce. The fajitas are by far the best vegetable fajitas we've had - about 12 pounds of sizzling carrot, zucchini , peppers, tomato, and other goodiess, with fresh salsa, beans and steaming corn tortillas. And, of course, it wouldn't be complete without the drinks: pina colada for Julia, house margarita for me.
